What we pour

1. Driveways.

Your driveway takes real weight every single day cars, trucks, whatever’s parked out front. That’s a different job than a walkway, and it gets built like it. We reinforce driveways for the load they’ll actually carry so they don’t spider-crack under the daily grind.

2. Backyard patio slabs.

Want usable outdoor space out back? We pour flat, solid slabs for patios including ones that sit right up against the back of the house. Quick note so nobody’s confused: a patio slab poured next to your house is not foundation work. It’s a slab that abuts the wall. We do that all day. What we don’t touch is the structural stuff foundations, footings, or anything loadbearing on the house itself. Different animal, and we’re upfront about staying in our lane.

3. Walkways.

Why concrete fails on DFW clay

Clay soil is the whole story. When it rains, the clay swells up. When it dries out, it shrinks back down. Around here that wet-dry cycle swings hard, so the ground under your slab is basically always shifting. Concrete poured straight onto raw clay with no real base, no reinforcement, and no planned control joints can’t ride that movement it just cracks, usually within a couple of seasons and usually in ugly, random places. Done right, the same slab shrugs the movement off. That’s the whole difference between concrete that lasts and concrete you’re patching before it’s paid off.

How we build it to last

  • Base preparation. We put down a properly compacted base under every slab. No pouring straight onto raw clay and hoping the base is what gives the concrete something stable to sit on while the ground underneath does its thing.
  • Reinforcement. We use rebar where the load calls for it, especially on driveways carrying vehicle weight. A walkway and a driveway don’t need the same steel, and we match the reinforcement to the job instead of one-size-fitting everything.
  • Control joints. Concrete’s going to move the trick is telling it where to crack. We place control joints deliberately and space them right, so any cracking follows the lines on purpose instead of wandering across your slab. On DFW clay, this isn’t optional.
  • Heat and cure timing. Texas summer is no joke on fresh concrete. Pour it in July and it wants to cure too fast, which cracks the surface if nobody’s watching the clock. So we time and manage the pour around the heat concrete poured in July gets handled differently than concrete poured in November, and we plan for that instead of pretending every day’s the same.

What happens on pour day

  1. Site prep and base work. If we’re replacing an old slab, the old material comes out first. Then we compact the ground and set the forms the frame that holds the concrete where it’s supposed to go and gives you clean edges.
  2. Reinforcement placed. Where the job calls for it, rebar goes in before any concrete does. Getting the steel positioned right at this stage is what lets it actually do its job once everything’s poured.
  3. The pour. Concrete goes in, gets spread and leveled, and we finish the surface. This is the part that moves quick once concrete starts going down, the clock’s running.
  4. Control joints cut. While the concrete’s still workable, we cut the control joints in. That’s how we decide where any future cracking lands on a planned line, not wherever the slab feels like it.
  5. Curing period. Concrete needs time before it can take weight, and it’s not ready just because it looks dry. Walking on it and driving on it are two different timelines figure a few days before foot traffic and longer before vehicles. Best time to pour in DFW

Spring and fall are the easy windows mild temperatures, and the concrete cures at a comfortable pace without much fighting the weather. Summer heat means the pour and cure have to be managed so the surface doesn’t set too fast, and winter cold does the opposite, slowing curing down. We can pour in any season we just plan around whatever that week’s weather is actually doing instead of forcing it.
