Your Yard Isn’t Supposed to Be a Pond
DFW sits on clay, and clay barely drains. Our rain doesn’t trickle in politely either — it shows up by the inch in a single afternoon, faster than the ground can take it. So the water sits on top of your yard instead of soaking in, sometimes for days after the sky clears. Standing water kills grass, breeds mosquitoes, and turns a perfectly good yard into a swamp you have to walk around. Here’s how we move it.
What TerraTop Installs
1. French drains.
A perforated pipe laid in a gravel-filled trench and buried out of sight. Water sitting in the soil finds the gravel, drops into the pipe, and gets carried off to a lower spot.
2. Surface drains and catch basins.
A grated basin set into a low spot that collects standing water off the surface and pipes it away good for that one corner that always puddles.
3. Downspout extensions and burial.
Instead of dumping roof water right at the corner of the house, we run it underground and release it well out into the yard where it can actually drain.
4. Channel and trench drains.
Long, narrow drains for hard surfaces driveways, patios, walkways that catch sheeting water before it pools or runs where you don’t want it.
5. Dry creek beds.
A visible, rock-lined channel that moves water across the yard and looks like it belongs there, instead of a utility grate sitting in the middle of the lawn.
6. Regrading and sloping.
Sometimes the fix is the ground itself. We reshape how the yard slopes so water heads where you want it instead of pooling where you don’t.
One Honest Note
Drainage moves water, it doesn’t make it vanish. In a hard enough North Texas downpour, even a well-built system can have water sitting briefly while it catches up the difference is it clears in a reasonable stretch instead of leaving your yard a swamp for days.
